UW Caption Insights

UW Caption Insights is a tool developed in-house and available to YouTube channel owners. It offers a variety of features designed to help channel owners as they work to prioritize their video captioning efforts in YouTube.

Step 1. Request access.

YouTube channel owners can request an account via our . Please include the following information in your request:

  • YouTube channel owner鈥檚 name and email
  • Name and URL of YouTube channel
  • UW affiliation (e.g., name of college, department, or unit)

Step 2. Login.

After you have been granted access, you can login to using your UW NetID.

Features

Top Channels

See which UW channels have captioned 100%, 90%, 80%, 70%, 60%, or 50% of their videos. If your channel is not yet shown among the top channels, this can be a motivator to caption more videos as watch as your channel climbs in the rankings!

Channel Overview and Progress

Access an overview of your channel with a variety of data, including the number of videos, number and percent of videos that are captioned, mean number of views per video, and much more. Also, a line graph is provided that shows your channel’s captioning progress over time.

Table of Videos

This feature is a highlight of the tool. All of your channel’s videos are shown in table, which can be sorted by any column. Sorting by publication date, number of views, or whether the videos have been captioned can be very helpful for prioritizing your videos for captioning.
