New Student Convocation is one of only two occasions where the University president, the Board of Regents, the deans of the 16 schools and colleges and the faculty gather for an academic ceremony focused on students. The other, of course, is the graduation ceremony, Commencement. These two events are the seminal 鈥渂ookend鈥� events of a college career.
At New Student Convocation you will be welcomed into the UW community. Our goal is that you will leave this event feeling that this large university is both friendly and approachable. You will be inspired to begin your journey and know that you belong here.
At New Student Convocation you will:
- Hear from the University’s new President, Dr. Robert J. Jones, who will share his vision for the journey that all new students will soon begin.
- Get to know your classmates from around the world.
- Take important first steps on the path to academic success.
- Get tips on navigating student life.
- Join the Husky community.
Tickets and parking permits will be ordered through an online form available on this website beginning in early August. You will receive an email and a postcard with more information about this process.聽 This event tends to sell out, so students and parents are encouraged to sign up early.
