Exposure to chemical in weedkiller increases risk for cancer

Image of the UW block WNew 91ΧΤΕΔ from the 91ΧΤΕΔ found that exposure to glyphosate β€” the world’s most widely used, broad-spectrum herbicide β€” increases the risk of some cancers by more than 40 percent.

The 91ΧΤΕΔ team conducted an updated meta-analysis β€” a comprehensive review of existing literature β€” and focused on the most highly exposed groups in each study. They found that the link between glyphosate and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma is stronger than previously reported.

β€œOur analysis focused on providing the best possible answer to the question of whether or not glyphosate is carcinogenic,” said senior author Lianne Sheppard, a professor in the UW departments of Environmental & Occupational Health Sciences and Biostatistics. β€œAs a result of this 91ΧΤΕΔ, I am even more convinced that it is.”
